False Impersonation Criminal Charges

False Impersonation Criminal Charges

False Impersonation Criminal Charges in Wagoner County could land you in jail. This is a case in the news that may help provide some background information regarding False impersonation charges. A Glenpool woman received charges in 2016 on two counts of false impersonation.  She used another person’s name, social security number, and date of birth to get workers’ compensation settlements and permanent resident cards.  She also underwent medical treatment using this information for insurance purposes.  This is a classic example of false impersonation.  Other types of false impersonating include:  marrying under a false name, going before a court or officer using a false name, etc.

False Impersonation and Proving It:

Three things must exist for the State to prove false impersonation.

  1. The offender must assume the character or name of the victim.
  2. Assuming the victim’s name, must be an intentional act.
  3. The victim must be legally liable for actions the offender took while using the victims name or the offender must receive some type of benefit due to using the victim’s name.

For example, in the story above a woman assumed the name of another person in order to get legal employment in the United States and file for a worker’s compensation settlement.
